Review and Gallery by: Jaime “Chino” Flor

Sold out event for the much anticipated return of Craig Owens and Chiodos. The 20th Anniversary Tour of All’s Well That Ends Well presented by Live Nation at The South Side Ballroom in Dallas, Tx last Monday night was an emotional rollercoaster. The tour featured a diverse line-up that was sure to entertain fans of different genres. I couldn’t help but feel nostalgically pleased as I saw merch being worn by younger fans as I made my way inside the venue.

The Callous Daoboys were up first and they definitely know how to rile up a crowd. With a name resembling our very own professional football team, the band from Atlanta, Georgia caught early on-goers attention with their unique style and stage presence. They have released 2 studio albums since 2016 with an upcoming full release of I Don’t Want to See You in Heaven this year. “Star Baby” was my favorite song from their set. And seeing a violinist perform on stage definitely added to their appeal.

When Keeping It Real Goes Wrong” was one of the first few metalcore songs I really liked when it released so I was ecstatic to see Emmure on this tour. A good clash in Hip-Hop and Metal, they are a fun band to watch live. Formed 2003 with 8 studio albums under Frankie Palmeri’s belt, they wasted no time hyping the energy even further. I loved “Shinjuku Masterlord” and their set list with the lighting that just elevated the mood. I hope the current line-up continue to stay together and I will be looking forward to future music they create.

Hawthorne Heights and “Ohio Is For Lovers” will always go hand in hand with OG Emo music. “So cut my wrists and black my eyes.” has rooted itself deep in the genre. When JT Woodruff talked about the early days of being ridiculed and bullied for our music choice and lifestyle, it gave a strong rush of emotions and I could see people who felt that start to tear. They had an incredible set list of all the hits they’ve created since 2004. And to hear the crowd sing word for word to “Ohio Is For Lovers” was an experience you just had to be a part of to understand.

Chiodos was formed in 2001 in Davison, Michigan and has since seen it’s share of ups and downs. Craig Owens is definitely keeping the name alive and it’s crazy to think it has been 20 years since “All’s Well That Ends Well” was created. “The Words “Best Friend” Become Redefined” continues to be a part of my everyday playlist. The crowd stopped at nothing to show their support with crowd surfers going non-stop and screaming lyrics as Chiodos played hit after hit after hit. Craig knows how to perform. Craig knows how to captivate. Chiodos knows how to deliver an unforgettable show. I truly hope they create new music. This night brought me back to my teenage years. It was never a phase. Thank you for an incredible tour.
